Thinking of taking the family away on your next holiday instead of a staycation? Well that is a great idea and there is no better place to spend a family holiday than the warm islands of the Caribbean.

The Dominican Republic answers the call for all ages and activity levels, making it the perfect island for family holidays. With great accommodations like holiday rental houses, all-inclusive resorts and hotels, like Eden Rock at Cap Cana and Natura Cabana Boutique Hotel & Spa, there is a place for every family and budget.

With both the highest and lowest points in the Caribbean, the diversity of the island will satisfy mountain-lovers, beach-goers and those who want to explore a rain forest or desert. It’s all here in the Dominican Republic.

Water lovers should take time to explore. With over 1,000 miles of beaches, there is plenty of sand and surf for everyone. Playa Bonita is a gorgeous, hard-to-reach-but-worth-it beach. Quiet and beautiful, this beach is touted by many as the most beautiful beach in the Dominican Republic.

The Damajaqua Cascades in Puerto Plata are serious play for the daring at heart. The name means 27 waterfalls and the ticket covers a hike to the top, gear and a guide to lead you leaping and splashing down the river to the bottom. Jumps up to 20 ft down the waterfalls are perfect for adrenaline junkies.

For a thrill, visit the Cueva de las Maravillas. The Cave of Marvels has stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations, cave art and an iguana farm nearby. This is a fun family excursion and does not take all day. Start early and be home for lunch.

Heart-thumping rides in a cable car will take you to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres. The view from the top is breath-taking. See the bay a whole new way. One minute the cable car is shrouded in clouds and the next minute you are able to see all over the Dominican Republic. Truly worth the trip!
